Notes for Eleanor Roth Stewart
A certificate of marriage registration was obtained #923 on July 10th. 1978 at Buffalo City Hall that states the marriage information used in this record. My grandmother was possibly the nicest person I've ever known. She would always open her change purse and send us to the corner store for things. She had lots of little sayings like , " Thin winter fat graveyard " meaning if you had a mild winter many people would get sick and die. " The whiter the bread th e quicker your dead " meaning white bread is not good for you and she always had dark breads in her house. " the greater the day the greater the deed " meaning it's OK to do good works on Sunday or Holidays. I'll think of others as life goes on and put them in here. On the 1900 census index her name is spelled Elenora as it is on the census itself. It also states she did not attend school in 1900 at age 15 ( probably working ). She was born at 105 Farmer Street per my Aunt Eleanor her daughter. I looked very carefully on the 1880 census and there is no 105 Farmer Street on it so it must have been built after 1880.

Notes for George Reed (Spouse 1)
Employed as a machinist for the Thomas Motor Car Co., a US Customs agent, and a salesman for H.D. Taylor Co. Buffalo New York. Was a very heavy smoker for many years. He loved to tell a good story especially on the front porch at 414 Dearborn St. He would say hello and talk to whomever came by. Called all of his grandchildren " stick in the mud "! Origin unknown! Resident of 414 Dearborn Street in the Black Rock section of Buffalo for many years. Long time member of St. John's Catholic Church on Hertel Ave and East Street in Black Rock.

Had five children. Information about his parents is very sketchy. The oral tradition passed down thru the family is that his parents had to go to Arizona for health reasons. (Asthma / allergy or TB related) ? Filing of Birth records was not required before 1914 in New York state.

I have NO RECORD of CERTIFICATIONS on birth certificates for both George Reed Stewart and Eleanor Roth his wife . I do have a Certificate of Marriage Registration # 923 for them. According to notes I took at Buffalo City Hall on 10 July 1978 when my father John F. Stewart and I went there to check on marriage information my grandfather George Reed Stewart lived at 46 Greenwood Place and was occupied as a machinist. The witnesses were Elizabeth ( Belle ) Stewart and Thomas O'Donahue. He was born at 184 Sixth Street in Buffalo which no longer exists. Sixth Street became Busti Avenue .

He was married at St. Francis Xavier RC Church on East Street in Buffalo. My cousin Mary showed me a copy of the 1920 census where he is listed in E.D. 194 21st. Ward Sheet 11B occupation Customs Inspector Government.

Title for 414 Dearborn went to he and his wife 28 June 1943. Visited his gravesite on 7 Oct 2001 it is near Knocke Road beneath the row of Scotch pine trees which is very appropriate.

Per the 1910 census film 946 pt. 2 E.D. 174 page 80 line 82 he was head of the house at 422 Dearborn St. age 27 and recently married less than a year to his wife Elenora ; his sister Elizabeth Belle lived with them at the time! Listed as a machinist in the auto industry.

In 2004 James Lee Stewart viewed his marriage record on page 105 of St. Francis RC Church. Witnesses to marriage were Thomas O'Donohue and his sister Elizabeth STEWART.
